Michael Foot RIP

Sad news about Michael Foot. Others can concentrate on the long life and good works. I'll just say that I was present at what I suspect was his only ever visit to Madame JoJo's.

Oh come on, you can't not elaborate on that one...

Brilliant politician, beyond all realms of shitness as a leader.

For those of us who have lived under pebbles for 36 years, what's Madame JoJos?

A London club for large-handed women, much used for book launch parties.

Matthew - I agree that Foot shouldn't have been leader, but then Labour should have held itself together during the 1979-82 period, when it was enjoying massive public support and Thatcher was deeply unpopular, rather than breaking up into rival groupings which unfortunately could never work under first-past-the-post. Note that he was arguably forced into the role for quite cynical reasons because it is often claimed that many moderates voted for him as Labour leader to give them the excuse to form the SDP.

Oh, and am I right in thinking Madame JoJos was somewhere big in that curious mid-90s 'New Easy' craze, or am I misremembering old issues of Select?
